It’s not often that the material created in a writer’s first ever session makes it onto an album, let alone a single, yet Lxandra is an artist for whom breaking moulds is nothing new. She was born in Suomenlinna, an inhabited sea fortress near Finnish capital Helsinki and plays home to just 800 residents. Since leaving Suomenlinna for Berlin to pursue songwriting, Lxandra has released ‘Flicker’, which she admitted was created in "the first writing session I ever had…and therefore it is naturally my first release". The track was produced by fellow Finn via Berlin, Perttu, and is filled with brilliant quirks including grandfather clock ticks, warped synth stabs and distorted xylophones. To complement this, Lxandra’s vocals are warm and direct, calling to mind artists such as Lana Del Rey and Lorde. If this is what Lxandra can produce in her first ever writing session, then we can’t wait to see what she is capable of in months to come. –HM
